Skyline Trail with the Kids

On Friday night, we went on a hike...
we packed up some waters and drove
to the top of the North Ogden Divide...
stopped at the trailhead and went exploring...
about three quarters of the way up,
I felt my phone vibrating...
it was ryan, wondering where we were...
funny that the phone got reception
the higher up on the trail we went,
but doesn't work at the parking lot...
ryan told us to start heading down...
we wanted to make it to the top...
so we continued...the view was amazing...
took a few photos...and headed down...
it got dark on us pretty fast, mostly becasue
the trail ran on the east side of the mountain...
by the time we made it to the car, it was about 66 degrees...
next time, we will start a little bit earlier in the evening.
I love the weather this time of the year!

Austin and Dylan

Ryan and Lee took the boys shootin'.
Next day, they made a target for practice with the BB gun.

And look at their great haircuts.

Fourth of July

eat breakfast...eat by colors...breathe deeply

Just got done playing soccer in the yard with neighbor kids.
They all look so patriotic

Austin's hair

I cut his hair yesterday.  The summer is here and Austin wanted a hair cut to keep him cool.
I wanted him to keep the long, blond, surfer look.

the before pic

It has totally changed the way he looks. It looks good!

Look at August's post named Austin and Dylan for after pic...

Dylan's hair

He was growing his hair out, when grandpa said he wanted to cut it.  I cut it today and gave him steps/lines/whatever you want to call it.  His hair looked like a mushroom top/coconut head.  The weather was getting warm and he, grandpa, and I all agreed he needed a hair cut.  He was running through the sprinklers today and needed to bathe.  I asked Dylan if I could cut his hair before he jumped into the bath.  He said ok.

I took 'before and after' pics to note an occasion.

stay posted...

Today

Today after school, Aspen and I found a quail lying on the north lawn. We thought, "another bird is going to lay eggs in the yard again."  So we went to pick up the other kids from school and as soon as we got home, the other three kids plus the neighbor kids instantly found the quail and started poking sticks at it...I said leave it alone, it's going to lay eggs.  That was not the case.  The kids poked at it for another half hour before they realized that it was really dead.  I told Madison and her friend to find a shoes box so that we can bury it.  The box they found said American Eagle on it, so that's what we named the quail before we burried it.  I asked all the kids who were there to witness the burial if they would like to say any last words.  Aspen said, "this is not the first bird to leave us (right after the duck from the previous blog post hatched her eggs, they were gone).  And I said " and probably won't be the last."

I've turned my kids into bird watchers. :)

And because I had the shovel out digging holes, Austin wanted to plant his bean plant from school. And I wanted to plant the lily I got for mother's day.  So I continued digging in the yard til the plants were planted and the sidewalk was clear of dirt and weeds.  Just as I finshed, it started to rain.

Before Class

I'm getting ready for school today. My six year old son wanted to ride his bike to Grandma's house. I said wait five minutes and she'll be here to pick you up. He went out side to wait, so I thought.  My mom arrives and he is nowhere to be found.  I called his name hoping he would hear me and come running home.  I waited two minutes hoping he was just riding his bike around the block.  I called a mom whose son I watched yesterday, hoping he was there. He wasn't. I had to leave for school.  My mom said she would drive around to look for him, thinking he rode his bike to her house.  On my way to school, I thought, call the neighbor.  I called Carol, she answered, "he's here." What a sigh of relief.  I'm also mad.  Experiencing mixed feelings of: why did he run off, glad he's o.k., is not what I needed right before I leave for school.  I'm thinking I can't be late...There's a quiz!

Maddie

Madison cut ten inches from her hair last night
to donate to locks of love...
Her new hair cut is so darling...
She is so spunky!

I told her if she donates her hair,
I'll pay to have her ears pierced...
That's a good trade, right?

Wolf Mountain Ski Day with Kids

I wouldn't let them run off before I got a pic of all of them together...after that...
I tried to ski with each one individually...
It was windy and snowy, on and off, all day...that didn't stop them from skiing til the last run of the night.

Dylan went on the chair lift a couple of times with me, and we took it really slow

while he hung on to the ski poles in front of him,

I guided his skis back and forth til we made it down the hill.

He stayed on the Magic Carpet most of the day where it was safe.

Austin goes straight down, it was hard to keep up with him.

Madison is working on her turns and likes to take it slow.

Aspen is brave and went to the top with me.

Wolf has the best slopes for beginners like us.

Thanks for a great ski day.

Dew Tour

We walked forever and climbed the stairs of snow to see the skiers do their stuff.

free mountain dew...whoohoo!

On the chair lift...What a goreous day!

Shauna's Birthday

Home made banner stayed on the wall for about a week.

Having cake with the family

Six slices of Boston Band Cake...It was the best.

If you can't tell, the candles say 33.

Environmental Center Field Trip

Went with Dylan on his field trip to the Environmental Center on Feb. 10.  I thought hanging out with a bunch of children would make me feel younger on my birthday. It did. I went snowshoeing and sledding!  This was my first Envionmental Center field trip; I've had three other children go and I had to be home with little ones. This was a great start to my day celebrating.

handmade

We went to the store to buy Valentine's cards.
They were sold out.
So I had to get creative and make my own!
Hand cut and stamped: just in time.
26 for Maddie

52 for Austin and Dylan .

In the morning, the kids signed their names on the card
and taped a piece of candy to each one.
What is this Valentine's thing all about? ;)

Valentine's

Madison, Dylan, and Austin had to make boxes for their parties at school today.
We worked on them Sunday afternoon before I had to go to work.
Then, that evening after work I handmade 72 valentine's cards for all the classes.
I love what I do!
